1840 Fores’s Comic Envelope No.1 Mulready caricature, sent from Rochester to Bath and rated in red manuscript “1” and red “Paid” cds for JY.01.1840 on reverse, datestamped (unusually on the front, addressed on the reverse so as not to spoil the design) with a perfectly struck bright orange Rochester cds for the same day. Unrecorded by Bodily Jarvis & Hann who list eight others and two fronts. A beautiful exhibition item. Cert. Brandon (2004).
