1833 (Nov 19). Entire letter from Mérida to Charleston (United States), correctly charged with “4” Reales marking as per single rate, transported by the Spanish mails with “Yndias” straight-line hs (P.E. 5) struck in Mexico. Closed tear on front of no significance for this important item. The “Yndias” marking denoted mail originating from Spanish American colonies on correspondences sent to Spain; consequently, in this instance was erroneously and exceptionally struck. One of just two covers recorded exhibiting the “Yndias” postmark on mail addressed to the United States.
