Lot 10609 – Queretaro 25c lithographed on Salamanca cover

Querétaro 25c buff lithographed (consignment #33-1866 sub 18), frame line just touched at top right, otherwise good even margins, on cover from Salamanca to León dated August 27, 1866, and tied by good strike of the dotted oval “FRANCO / EN SALAMca” cancel (Schatzkès #1330). A very fine cover from a very small town (covers from this locality are often found with stamp applied upside down, presumably as a mark of the postmaster’s disrespect to the Emperor Maximilian).
