1809 ca. Large cover front from Madrid to the Governor of Chiloé (Chile), displaying nearly complete framed oval with coat of arms, a scarce marking applied on “Por el Rey” royal mail, carried via Lima where the framed “MZ” was struck, indicating the postal fee was annotated in a special account of the Real Renta de Correos. Handwritten “390” maritime and “195” inland rates, totalling 585 reales corresponding to 39 pounds, this being one of the highest rates recorded in the Spanish colonial maritime mail.
