Description
1810 ca. Cover front from an unidentifiable locality in Peru to Madrid, endorsed “Pr. la Fagta. Suplicada” (“Suplicada” frigate), graced by a magnificent bold strike of “Perú” straight-line postmark applied on receipt. This is the only item known displaying the “Perú” of Cádiz used during the colonial period; of great significance and desirability as a “Peru” hs used in Spain. Before the discovery of this item, this postmark was believed to have been used in mid 1800’s, and not during the colonial dominion. Auction
