Lot 20680 – 1922 The only insured cover known from the Scalanova P.O.
1922 (Jan 17) Insured cover (600 lire) to Milan, franked by “Leoni” 10c and eleven examples of “Michetti” 25c, tied by “Poste Italiane/Scalanova (Anatolia)” cds’s and the required “A” label with two-line handstamp at top right, “Poste/Scalanova (Anatolia)” red wax seals with Savoyard coat of arms on reverse, together with Brindisi transit cds. The 2,85 lire franking paid 40c for the single weight, the 50c registration fee and the insurance fee of 75c for the first 200 lire, plus 1,20 lire for the remaining 400 lire (30c for each additional 100 lire over 200). The only insured mail known from the Scalanova P.O., demonstrating that this postal service was also in force; probably the most significant and spectacular rarity from Anatolia. Signed Fiecchi.
