Lot 70135 – Forgery: 1840 1d black IK/KL forgery in block of four
Forgery: 1840 1d black pl.9, a very rare block of four of the famous collotype photographic forgery taken from the original block in “the Dublin find”. A wonderful and rare example of this famous forgery, almost certainly a photographic reproduction of a half sheet of 1841 1d red-brown plate 9. The photographic block was split and cancelled with fake Maltese crosses. This is a rare block of 4, of which only a handful have been recorded by Karl Louis, a wonderful item, ex Plumridge and Co 1904; Christie’s Robson Lowe 10th July 1984, lot 2430, see detailed cert.
