1883-84 The De La Rue Plates Perforated Colour Trials: A reconstruction of the 21st September “Scheme of Colours”, comprising as “existing colours” 1d. drab and 2 1/2d. on 1d. lake, both perf 14; 3d. on 1d. mauve and 4d. bright blue, both perf 13 1/2; 6d. bright green, 1s. orange-vermilion (marked “This colour cannot be improved upon”) and 5/- lake (marked “It is believed that this is the colour in which the stamp has hitherto been printed, and it could not well be improved upon”), all perf 12. The proposed colours are 1/2d. represented by 1d. green, 1d. by 1d. red, 2 1/2d. by 1d. milky blue, 3d. by 1d. orange-brown and 6d. by 1d. mauve, all perf. 12, and the 4d. by imperforate 4d. purple-brown; a few small faults including slightly clipped perforations.
