1883-84 The De La Rue Plates Perforated Colour Trials: A reconstruction of the 21st September « Scheme of Colours », comprising as « existing colours » 1d. drab and 2 1/2d. on 1d. lake, both perf 14; 3d. on 1d. mauve and 4d. bright blue, both perf 13 1/2; 6d. bright green, 1s. orange-vermilion (marked « This colour cannot be improved upon ») and 5/- lake (marked « It is believed that this is the colour in which the stamp has hitherto been printed, and it could not well be improved upon »), all perf 12. The proposed colours are 1/2d. represented by 1d. green, 1d. by 1d. red, 2 1/2d. by 1d. milky blue, 3d. by 1d. orange-brown and 6d. by 1d. mauve, all perf. 12, and the 4d. by imperforate 4d. purple-brown; a few small faults including slightly clipped perforations.
