1840 (Sep 26) Wrapper sent locally within London with 1840 1d grey-black pl.1a FF (showing significant plate wear), with fine to very good margins, neatly tied by a crisp strike of an experimental black MC with a “T.P./ PORTUGAL St.” handstamp alongside, reverse with London Chief Office datestamp, a very attractive cover with this rare usage of the black Maltese Cross
Note: The London District Post began trials using black ink for cancellation on London local post on August 31st 1840, it is very rarely seen on plate 1a.
