1844 (Mar 29) 1d Red-brown RB on entire letter from Mullingar addressed to “The Editor of the Naval and Military Gazette London”, cancelled by a superb strike of the distinctive Mullingar Maltese Cross in black and showing a fine strike of the Mullingar D.S. in blue at left; a superb example of this rare distinctive cross and possibly one of the finest known examples (SG £20’000)

This particular cover featured in an article in the Great Britain Philatelist May 1961 when it belonged to an H Morris, at the end of the article it was printed “H. Morris’ Mullingar Cross and the illustration of this cancellation which we shall in future be using as a standard”
