1857-59 Post Paid 1d. red on bluish, two vertical pairs, positions 3/6 and 8/11, mainly large margins, one pair barely touched on one side, on up to 1/2 oz folded entire letter from Port Louis to Chalon-sur-Saône, France, dated 8.2.1860 and endorsed ‘pr Columbian’, both pairs tied by oval bars cancels, one additionally tied by ‘8’ due marking on arrival, with red French entry at lower right and backstamped on receipt, pressed vertical crease affecting one stamp, hardly detracting from this very rare franking of great appearance
Note: The P&O ‘Columbian’ left Port Louis on 8.2.1860 arriving to Suez on 25.2, where the mail was transferred to the P&O ‘valletta’ for onward transmission to Marseille via Alexandria, reaching its destination on 4.3.
