1879 “The 60th – The King’s Royal Rifle Corps” on active service during the Anglo-Zulu war, officer’s letter envelope sent to the Isle of Wight via Durban bearing Natal 6d with “POSTAGE” inverted overprint (SG83b) cancelled “2”, which entered the postal system at Durban, missing backflap, a rarity of the Anglo-Zulu war
Note: Written by Captain Charles Cramer who served the duration of the campaign, including the advance & relief of Eshowe and at the battle of Ginindlovu and commanded two companies that served as escort of the Zulu King after his capture from the Black Umfolzi to Ulundi
