1870 Envelope from Chinchas Islands (off the coast of Peru) to the USA via Islay & Callao bearing Peru 1d cancelled at Islay, passed unpaid at the British P.O. & marked “12” then passed to the US P.O. with “12” hs indicating the amount due to the British post office in cents for passage from Peru; upon entry at New York, a “NEW 24 YORK” cds was applied representing the single 22c rate plus a 2c adjustment for depreciated currency (composed of 12c due to Great Britain plus the fixed steamship rate of 10c), fine and very scarce
