1867 (March 30) Trans-Continental & Trans-Atlantic large registered cover from San Francisco (Apr. 1 cds and s/l “REGISTERED”) to Dublin, Ireland, at 24 cents Treaty rate via American Packet (possibly Havre line “Fulton”), franked by FIFTEEN 3c values on front (target cancels) plus part of one (and several others missing) on reverse, endorsed “Per Overland…” (a reference to the PONY EXPRESS?) and sent via New York (May 11 red “Registered” cds) and London (red 2 MY 67 oval) with Dublin Registered bs (MY 22), probably 48c double weight letter + 20c reg’d fee. Some faults (incl. portion of back flap missing) as may be expected with such a massive franking; rare trans- and inter-Continental registered usage with all the markings recto and verso.
