1875-97, NORWEGIAN MISSIONARY MAIL IN MADAGASCAR: This collection of 33 covers, mostly devoid of postal markings, nearly all to or from the Reverend Aas at various mission stations throughout Madagascar, is one of the scarcest groups of postal history extant for the island. While many were privately carried, or via forwarding agents, others were sent via consular and government officials (of the Madagascar government). We believe that it would be impossible to match or duplicate such a holding, which largely encompasses the period before any postage stamps (or, for that matter, postal markings) were available, lot contains also two examples of the first missionary stamps (Est. € 3’000/4’000)
