1864 Cuba / Puerto Rico Issue used in the Dominican Republic
Folded entire from Puerto Plata to Santo Domingo franked by Cuba 1864 1r dull blue on plate brown and tied by clear PUERTO PLATA 21 MAY 1864 c.d.s. in blue with another strike alongside.
Though the use of the 1855 issue of Cuba / Puerto Rico in the Dominican Republic is well known, this is the only recorded item to bear the 1864 issue, described in the Kohl handbook (1928), volume II, page 228.
Very Fine and unique exhibition showpiece.
