FINEST OF TWO “POST PAID” EARLIEST IMPRESSION IN INDIGO BLUE ON COVER 2d Indigo-blue single, position 11, good to very large margins, rich deep blue with an almost solid impression, tied by light bars cancel on folded inland cover from Flacq to Port Louis. Obverse with large framed “INLAND” and framed “FLACQ/JUY 10 1849” hs, backside with Mauritius Post Office / ? JY 1849 cds. Expertise: Cert. BPA (1958) Provenance: Alfred H. Caspary, 1958; Dr. Chan Chin Cheung, 1961; Donald Grey, 1962; Stevens, 1964; H. Kanai, 1993; “K.L.”, 1996; William H. Gross, 2008 After extensive research we have only recorded one other cover bearing the 2d indigo-blue (ex Dale-Lichtenstein), but the stamp on that, though very fine, was uncancelled.
