LETTER REGARDING “THE PLOT” TO PUT PRINCESS ELIZABETH ON THE THRONE 1556 letter from Sir Thomas Cheyne to the Mayor of Favesham regarding State affairs and talks of the secret instructions by “My Lord of the Councell” concerning espionage work to be undertaken against certain people suspected of being involved in a plot to place the “Prenysses” Elizabeth on the throne. Sir Thomas asks the Mayor to reply by “the same trustye messenger”, and enjoins him to “ffayle you not hereof as you will answer for the contrary at your uttermost perill”. An outstanding item of historical interest regarding Queen Elizabeth I, who became Queen two years after this letter Estimate: € 5’000 – € 8’000
