NEAPOLITAN PROVINCES – Superb 50gr Usage on Cover
1861 50gr SLATE BLUE plus 10gr ochre on folded cover from the port of Naples to Rome, sent on the sea route (manuscript “Via di Mare” at top left), “CIVITAVECCHIA / DALLA / VIA DI MARE” handstamp alongside, Rome arrival backstamp.
The rare 50gr has fantastic margins all around, the 10gr is just barely touched at top. This cover is acknowledged to be one of the most beautiful 50gr slate blue covers in existence. With A. Diena, E. Diena and Colla certificates. (Scott $175,000; Sass. €320,000+)
