1869 (Feb 5) Envelope from Suez to Italy with Egyptian 1867-69 20pa pair tied by Suez cds (Smith type I-2.5) and Italy 40c tied by “235” dotted numeral, Italian Alexandria cds adjacent, arrival bs, small portion removed from reverse, other faults and soiling, according to the certificate, this is the earliest date known of the Jan 1 1869 40c rate on a mixed franking and one of only two frankings with a 1867-69 20pa, cert.
