1860–1981 Telegraph Stamps, Telegram Envelopes & Messages: An attractive and specialised collection, neatly mounted and knowledgeably written up across twenty-six (26) album pages, with a further ring binder containing over fifty additional pages. The collection begins with two distinct designs of unused and used stamps issued by the British and Irish Magnetic Telegraph Company, ranging in denominations from 3d to 5s and 1s to 5s (29 examples in total). Beyond the adhesives, the holding is enriched by a wonderful and diverse array of printed telegram forms, envelopes, and messages, spanning well over a century. Together, these items vividly illustrate the practical and historical development of telegraphic communication, while also providing strong crossover appeal between philately, postal history, and social history.
This is an unusual and scarce assembly, seldom offered with such breadth and organisation, and one which offers enormous potential for study, research, and expansion by the specialist or collector of telegraph material.
Additional scans and images are being uploaded on a continuous basis, and the complete set of illustrations for all lots will be available by 1 June 2026.
