1884, 30 sen bright violet, syllabic 3 (JSCA 48) with pair 50 sen Koban issue (JSCA 77), each struck by indistinct foreign mail handstamp, on large registered envelope from Legazione d’Italia in Yokohama Mar. 1st 1884 to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome; with New York registration label on front alongside purple registered date marking and boxed R. On the reverse is purple “Registered San Francisco” Mar. 24, and Rome arrival 14.4 1884. 1 yen 30 sen, making this cover the 12th weight step (150-180 gr.) + registration. With certificate Philatelic Federation of Japan 2019. An exceptionally rare and attractive envelope in extremely fine and fresh condition with the highest known franking bearing the 30 sen value, a phenomenal cover. Auction
