Canton 1833 (Oct. 30), entire letter to William Leslie in Aberdeenshire, Scotland with manuscript endorsement “Per H.C.S. Waterloo China Nov 16 1833”; no postal or tariff markings and probably conveyed privately. Four letter sheets (16 pages) of correspondence that mention ships in Whampoa and the factories of Canton. A fascinating picture of China trade in the time before the Opium Wars.
