Lot 40887 – Portuguese Azores 1916-1919 German and Austrian Internee mail
WWI Internee Mail: Fine written-up collection starting with 1916 (28.v.) printed stationery to Vienna bearing the first military camp marking COMMANDO MILITAR DOS ACORES in brown, Geneva Red Cross three-line handstamp at left and larger four-line Lisbon P.O.W. cachet, this the earliest recorded mail from the camp, later May 28 card with similar handstamps in different colours,June and October cards with cursive COMANDO MILITAR handstamps, 1916 picture postcard (broken corner) with rare red Deposito De Concentrados Alemaes plus another example on card from July 1918, a very late usage, ornate framed second types on stationery and covers, Inbound censor mail, free franking adhesive stamp covers, 1918 D.C.A. handstamps, outdated Acores stationery usages including 1919 (Sept 3) 2c stationery card to Essen, the last recorded date. A collection that has won many awards including gold at Stampshow 2010 and Westpex 2011(25 items)
