Lot 70433 – 1840s and 1850s, group of twenty letters, incoming

1840s and 1850s, group of twenty letters, incoming (from India) and outgoing, many stamped by oval “packet letter Mauritius” and Madras GPO, with a good range of endorsements and routings. Also good ship letters on 8 exhibition pages with thorough analysis, many with Mauritius GPO crown handstamp. A great lot with much to study, and with interesting documentation, such as duplicate letters and different rates, most of material stemming from the Pipon Bell & Co. correspondence. Generally good condition but with the usual archival folds and ink corrosion so typical of the epoch.
