Description

1d. red-brown on bluish paper, latest impression, two single from positions 5 and 8, each with large to very large margins, and in combination with “Britannia” 6d., each centrally cancelled by “Paid” in circle, on 1860 (Mar 8) entire letter from Port Louis with contents from Mauritius Commercial bank to Calcutta (India), originally endorsed in error “p Overland via Marseilles” (deleted) and “p str to Aden” (with Aden also apparently deleted); filing creases affecting 1d. [8] and 6d. and some slight soiling, a very rare franking with this combination of issues and paying 8 penny rate.
