Description

2d blue, early impression, position 10, just cut into on the left side otherwise clear margins, on 1850 (Jan 18) wrapper from Port Louis “p. B B Greene bound for Cork” to Bordeaux, tied by black grill, crowned GPO ds, landed at Cove and with blue “COVE / SHIP LETTER” and “8” ship rate hs on face, reverse with Queenstown and English transits, charged ’30’ in France with boxed “COLONIES / &C ART 13” accountancy.

A rare usage, the only example seen routed through Ireland
