Description
1842 (Feb 23) cover from Leeds to Nottingham with extremely rare fraudulently re-used 1840 1d black KJ pl.5, fine to large margins, previously cancelled by black MC and further cancelled by pen cross with “used before” below and “2d” tax hs, despatch and arrival bs, very fine.Expertise: Cert. RPS (1979) and Karl-Albert Louis (2012) which states ”one of the few surviving instances of the attempt to re-use stamps, which was one of the permanent fears of the Post Office even after the major changes from black to red printed adhesives and from red to black obliteration ink in February 1841”.
