1840 1d black pl.1b CD/DJ block of fourteen, margins nearly all round (a few just clipped at one place), on entire from Manchester to London dated 7 August 1840, tied by fine strikes of the red Maltese Cross; some small faults or defects (CE-DE with split horizontal crease) and paper buckling. The cover with faults and refolded for display. An extraordinary franking. To our know knowledge, the second largest known block used on cover from any of the 1840 1d plates. A stunning exhibition centrepiece.
