1840 (May 9) entire to Manchester bearing a superb 1840 1d black pl.1a MH-NJ block of six, with good margins all round, neatly tied by good strikes of orange-red MCs, endorsed ‘’under 3 ozs’’ and with ‘’Chester MY 9 1840’’ arrival strike. A remarkable and important multiple use of the 1d black within the first four days of official use, and incredibly rare with only this block used on May 9th, and the block of ten used on first day of issue in the Royal collection known.
