Patents: Trio of UK patents incl. “A Letter Card for Postal Purposes” by Frank Melville Merridew, 23rd July 1892 with the specifications and illustrations of his design, whose ideas were adopted by the French and debated by the UK parliament before the idea was adopted by the UPU, “Improvements in Letter Boxes and Attachments thereto” by Charles Chambre with his design for a self-closing letter box in 1891 and “Improvements in Coin-freed Apparatus for Delivering Stamps and other Articles”, 22nd June 1901, by Edwin Gallwey, for his stamp vending machine design.
