German States to Moldavia / Romania: 1861 Thurn und Taxis 15kr+1kr on cover front (plus the upper part of the reverse) sent registered from Darmstadt on 7/8 to Roman, Moldavia, with a transit part cancellation of Hermannstadt, Transylvania, Austria on reverse. Interesting rate and transit notations for the postal history specialist, discussed and illustrated by Gmach in “Österreichische und ungarische Posteinrichtungen in den Donaufürstentümern (Rumänien)”, volume 3 page 281. A very rare destination with only a few sendings recorded.
