Description
1873 Unpaid letter from Marseile (Jul. 24, 1873) to Athens (Jul. 19, 1873) via Pireas (Jul. 19, 1873) transported by the boat “Scamandre” (leaving Marseille on Jul. 26, 1873) of the “Ligne du Levant”. Taxed at the arrival at 90 lepta (black “griffe de taxe 90 LEP”) for the transportation by the boats of the”Compagnie des Lignes de la Méditerranée” of a letter up to 10 grams (single rate) according to the 1866 convention between Greece & France.
The stamps are from the consecutive Athens printings (1862/1867) for the 80 lepta and the meshed papers printings (1871/1876) for the 10 lepta and are touched at one margin. Catalogue ref: Hellas 22a/40b
