Description
1872 Unpaid letter from Manchester (June 6/18, 1872) to Patras (June 14/26, 1872), via Kerkyra (June 12/24, 1872).
Taxed at the arrival at 345 lepta, handwritten in red pencil.
The 345 lepta tax is corresponding to the rate of an unpaid letter from 45 to 60 grams (triple rate, handwritten in black ink) according to the convention between Great Britain and Greece of Nov. 25/Dec. 7, 1868.
The 5 & 20 lepta and the strip of four of the 80 lepta (pre-cut by the postmen, common practice in the Patras post office) are from the consecutive Athens printings. Catalogue ref: Hellas 17a/19c/21a
