Description
1867 Unpaid letter from Trieste (Jul. 1/13, 1867) to Athens (Jul. 5/17, 1867) taxed at the arrival at 60 lepta, written on red pencil, for the transportation by “voie de mer” of a letter up to 15 grams by the Austrian ships of the Llyod company with 3 kreuzer for the Triest local fee & 10 kreuzer for the ship one (manuscript on blue pencil). The Llyod Austriaco reduced this rate from 15 to 10 kreuzer after the Austrian Central Post Offices Direction decision on Oct. 23, 1866, applicable starting Nov. 1, 1866 (circulaire of the Greek Post Offices n° 29 of Oct. 11, 1866).
The two stamps are from consecutive Athens printings (1862/1867) and have both good to large margins with just one magin lightly touched. Catalogue ref: Hellas 19a/20Ia
