Description
1866 Prepaid letter sent from Patras (May 22nd/June 3rd, 1866) to Trieste, Austria-Hungary (May 26th/ June 7th, 1866). Franked at 75 lepta, corresponding to the sum of: the Austrian maritime company Lloyd Adriatico of 45 lepta (15 kreuzer), the transit tax of the city of Trieste of 10 lepta (3 kreuzer), and the Greek domestic rate 20 lepta for a letter up to 15 grams. Red postmark “ΠΕΔ” or “ΠΛΙΡΩΜΕΝΟΝ ΕΞΟΤΕΡΙΚΟΝ ΔΗΚΕΩΜΑ” for “Paid to Foreign Destination”. One of the 5 lepta was folded before the cancellation (!!!).
All the stamps are from the consecutive Athens printings (1862/1867). Catalogue ref: Hellas 17b/19b
