Description
1869 (2.9) Envelope from Edinburgh to Peshawar, franked GB 4d, cover damaged and defective due to being part of the S.S.CARNATIC that was shipwrecked off Shadwin Island in the Red Sea on September 13th. However, some of the mail bags were recovered by divers on October the 24th, at which point a printed label was applied with the following text Recovered from wreck of the “Carnatic”, a very rare disaster mail item
