Description

1840 (23.2) Folded entire from Downpatrick to Worcester, showing clearly struck framed PAID AT / DOWN in black. The letter was missent to Belfast instead of Dublin and shows the usage of a distinctive red 2-line italic type Missent to Belfast and manuscript “free” in black alongside, the letter arrived in Dublin on February 25th and was further despatched to Worceter, a very fine, scarce and attractive usage of the Missent mkg

Note: The Missent handstamps were applied to the mail to indicate the cause of the delay. A delay occurred when the sorter misread the address or when mail was missorted into the wrong mailbag.

Additional scans and images are being uploaded on a continuous basis, and the complete set of illustrations for all lots will be available by 1 June 2026.
