1853-59 Waterlow lithographed 1 cent dull red, type C, unused example without gum, clear margins on three sides and only slightly touched at bottom, tiny thin spot and minute natural inclusion at left.A fresh example of this major unused rarity of the British Empire with only four examples recorded of which only one is in very fine condition. (SG £11’000).Provenance: Frederick T. Small (1970) lot 84 and signed on reverse with his comet stamp, which can also be found on the world’s most famous stamp the British Guiana 1c Magenta.Census of unused examples:– 1) Ex Frederick T.
