Description

1859 Quadruple rate entire dated July 1 from Cephalonia to Corfu bearing on front 1d pair with margin barely touched at left and, on reverse, paying the Austrian shipping fee a horizontal strip of four 1/2d. orange with good to large margins all round, the far right stamp printed a little higher than others and shows partial doubling of engraving with extra line down to buckle at left, both strips with single manuscript cross, very faint despatch to right of Omonoia company handstamp, arrival backstamp (3 July). A very desirable item, certainly one of the finest number ones available for the Ionian Islands and indeed elsewhere. A great rarity. A Dienna Cert (1964) and Karamitsos (2015)
