Lot 20765 – 1867 Danube & Black Sea Railway (DBSR) 20 pa. on letter fragment

1867 Danube & Black Sea Railway (DBSR) 20 pa. black on green stamp with a few nibbled perfs, tied by a pen cancel to a letter fragment, probably sent from Kustendje (Constanta) to Medjidie (Medgidia). A very rare circulation, as only one other letter (illustrated in Ferchenbauer, page 752) from the same correspondence is recorded on this short, train-only route . All the other ~15 covers in existence bearing this stamp also bear Austrian Levant stamps, as they were sent beyond Czernavoda (Cernavoda), where the railway ended. Fine condition, very rare. Cert.
