Description

1867 Danube & Black Sea Railway (DBSR) 20 pa. black on green stamp with a few nibbled perfs, tied by a pen cancel to a letter fragment, probably sent from Kustendje (Constanta) to Medjidie (Medgidia). A very rare circulation, as only one other letter (illustrated in Ferchenbauer, page 752) from the same correspondence is recorded on this short, train-only route . All the other ~15 covers in existence bearing this stamp also bear Austrian Levant stamps, as they were sent beyond Czernavoda (Cernavoda), where the railway ended. Fine condition, very rare. Cert. Pfenninger (1957) and Ferchenbauer (1983).

Additional scans and images are being uploaded on a continuous basis.
