Lot 66231 – Cape of Good Hope 1864 reg combination cover
1864 (Jul 20) printed blue ‘From Swellendam’ envelope registered to Leyde, Holland, endorsed “British & Foreign/ rate paid”, franked Perkins Bacon 1855-58 1d rose (SG 5a), pair 1863-64 4d deep blue and single bright mauve (SG 19,20) in combination with three single 1864-77 1s green (SG 26a) each cancelled by triangular ‘CGH’ obliterator, red London registered oval transit 28.3.64 below and a red cursive (Crown) Registered handstamp, rated “3/6” and “9” in red manuscript, backstamped Swellendam 20.7.64 despatch date stamp and Leiden arrival (27.8.64).
A truly spectacular cover of great importance as a Triangular and Seated Hope combination franking, and a desirable rarity of the British Empire.
