1849 (7.5) Folded entire from New York to Belfast, bearing oval hs in red FORWARDED BY ABRAHAM BELL & CO/NEW YORK, the letter was posted unpaid and shows a circular “5” in black to show U.S. debit, the letter was carried by Columbia on the 24th voyage from Boston to Liverpool with a May 22nd American Liverpool bs, rated “1/-“, at Belfast it was endorsed in manuscript Not Known or called for, apparently it was held for over two years and eventually returned to the US with a P.O.DEPT / DEAD LETTER OFFICE handstamp and manuscript 3/21 May 28 May 1851, unusual and a scarce usage.
