1840 (May 1) 1d Mulready lettersheet (A27) turned inside out and used on the 1st May 1840 to Derby, showing a fine strike of the red Tombstone “Paid 1 My 1840” then turned the right way and re-used locally on the 2nd May 1840 showing a good strike of the “Derby MY 2 1840” at lower left and rated “2” in manuscript. A fabulous pre First day usage (5 days before) and believed to be the only known example, a major rarity of the highest calibre; cert. BPA (1998).
