The High Values

On the 23rd May 1901 new designs for the 2/6d. (Postage and Revenue) and the 5/-, 10/-, £1 and £5 values, (postage and Telegraphs, were sent by the Inland Revenue to the post Office, for the approval of the postmaster general. The designs were largely based on QV issues but with the omission of corner letters, now considered impractical; also the 10/- value was largely redrawn. Formal approval was received on the 31st May, and the Inland Revenue was advised on the 3rd June.

1901 (14 May) A beautifully executed artist’s original design for the 2/6d. value in black and Chinese white with simulated perfs around the edge and a photographic “De La Rue Sketch head” inserted at centre, mounted sunken frame card surround (60 x 75mm.); a great high value exhibition rarity. Unique.
