Lot 10102 – The Two Pence Half Penny Value1901 (18 June) paste
The Two Pence Half Penny Value
1901 (18 June) paste up stamp size essay (A) for the 2 1/2d. value with bromide frame and sketch head mounted on card (90 x 115mm.) dated at top right also a De La Rue photo replica of the same proof; a very scarce pair.
Photo replicas were made by De LA Rue, presumably for record purposes, for this series of essays, also later for the high values. Only one of each of these appears to have been prepared. This essay often referred to as “A” , was unlettered for the simple reason that there were no proposed series at that moment. The Letter “A” only appeared on later copies made on or after the 10th July.
Additional scans and images are being uploaded on a continuous basis, and the complete set of illustrations for all lots will be available by 1 June 2026.
