On the 16th March however, Sir Francis Knollys (The Kings Private Secretary) wrote to the Post Office expressing the Kings disapproval of Essays A and B, and suggesting that a simple profile head should be used with no uniform or orders and that the effigy by “Herr Fuchs” should be the model.

1d. value state C with a three-quarter face likeness of the King facing left affixed to glazed card (92 x 60mm.) dated “ March 12 – 1901″ in manuscript; Unique in private hands.
