The Transvaal Essays
In October 1902 essays were prepared at the request of the King who admired the recent issue of Transvaal (1st April) with the thought of replacing the current 1/2d., 1d., 2 21/2d. and 6d values. The Essays Printed in several colours, comprised the Transvaal medallion in an adapted “Wreath” frame. however on the 18th October the King decided to retain the existing Fuchs design.
1901 (Aug) Uncleared die proof in black on glazed card (60 x 90mm.) of the medallion for the Transvaal issue of 1st. April 1901; scarce.
