Description
On the 1st February 1901 at the very start of the new Reign, De La Rue issued Statements for new dies and plates using existing Victorian designs – A short reign being anticipated.On 11th February two types of Essays (A & B) were submitted in sets with QV frames over Edwardian heads, the latter being Lithographed from hand drawn and photographed images. These were quarter and three quarter portraits facing left. In addition 1d. values were prepared with heads facing right (Aa and Bb) though were rejected since the orders were not displayed. The Essays were presented on cards, both in sets and individually.1901 A magnificent set of 12 stamp size Essays (Type B) 1/2d. to 1/- individually mounted then affixed to thick card (220 x 117mm).
